The Flow Cytometry Unit, Laboratory of Pathology, DCS, NCI, NIH, has a clinical flow cytometry fellowship position opening in July of 2000. The fellowship is open to all nationalities but an M.D. or Ph.D. degree is required. The fellowship is for a minimum of two years and can be extended for longer. The program is designed to teach one how to run a clinical flow lab. It involves hands on experience with processing of clinical specimens, quality control issues, passing CAP inspection and the fun part- making a diagnosis based upon clinical flow findings. In addition, the fellow would be expected to engage in research. The lab is involved in research on lymphomagenesis in B-cells. Research techniques involve use of flow as well as molecular biology. The salary is determined by NCI based upon the fellow's education and training, but is competitive. Any fellow who presents our research at a meeting receives fully funded travel to that meeting. We receive between 600 and 800 specimens a year. All are neoplastic specimens and quite difficult.
