We use a 575BP26 filter for FL2 on our FACStar because of the presence of a dye laser (as described by Marty Bigos) but recently went testing our PE sensitivity. Swapping in a 585BP42 filter did indeed give us more signal but also proportionately more background so that the signal-to-background was _not improved_. I guess we could have expected this since the narrower filter is on the PE emission peak where the signal-to-background is highest. The wider filter gets more of the "skirt" region where the signal-to-background is lower.
