Anyway, Retrospect can back up one or more Macs (and PC's, by the way), over the network or localtalk. It backs up onto nearly any device (i.e., disk, CD-R, tape backup, etc.). It runs entirely automated and in the background. I believe (but am not sure) that it has delete capabilities. It can backup by date, name, etc.; retrieving backed-up data is a snap--taking a minute or two at most to search the archive and get the actual data back. When it restores, it recreates the original directory structure, or creates a parallel structure somewhere else. We've used Retrospect to backup our entire lab's macs (about 15) on a nightly basis for nearly 8 years now, without any problems--and it has saved us a couple of times, when disks went out. (Not to mention saving my time once when I accidentally saved a manuscript with heavy unintended editting--I could just go back to the previous night's version). Retrospect is made by Dantz development: www.dantz.com. I give them three thumbs up. mr
