Dear James,

WinMDI Version 2.8 allows you to combines graphical regions in various
ways using
Boolean logic. If R1 is a region in a dotplot of FCS vs SSC, for example,
and R2 is another
region drawn over PI + (dead) cells in a histogram, then you could use a
"gate" where
the logic is AND for R1 and NOT for R2 to select cells in R1 and cells not
in
R2 as the ones to plot in another window. This is done using the Logical
Gate Tool.
For more specific information feel free to contact me directly with your
questions on how
you might gate your data set. If you are wanting to analyze BrdU FITC +
subsets, then
a glimpse of your actual data would be helpful in pointing you in the right
direction.

WinMDI 2.8 is not unique in its method of using logical gates. CellQuest
and other
flow applications work in a very similar way.

        Joe
