Differential Diagnosis of AML-M7 versus Platelet Adherence to Blasts

Because of the problems you mention we don't rely on flow for possible M7.
On the rare cases  including the Downs cases, we use immunoenzyme staining
by APAAP for CD61 (Dako) on the BM smear or a cytospin. It works
beautifully and it is easy to identify positive blasts and ignore the
adherent platelets or giant platelets which can also be a problem. We would
be interested to hear however of a reliable flow method.
