Rat bone marrow

I'd like to get any suggestions for preparing rat bone marrow preparations
for flow analysis.  I specifically would like to look at red blood cells, but
have been having problems with "debris".  I normally remove the femur, store
it in DMEM, flush with cold FBS, allow larger debris to settle out and then
analyze the upper layer of supernantant.  My rbc population is not as clean
as I need it to be for analysis.  Any tips would help.
