System software and CellQuest

To FACScan/FACSort/Calibur users,

Earlier this year I posted a query regarding communication problems we
had been having between our PMac 7600 and FACSort. These were overcome
by upgrading to CellQuest v3.0d1 and a new EPROM. Recently we received
an upgrade to CellQuest v3.1f and unfortunately the problem (plus
others) has recurred. It is sporadic, but often we have to shutdown the
PMac 4-5 times before it sees the FACSort. Sometimes in the middle of
acquisition communication fails, with the software saving empty files or
turning itself to standby. BD are working with us to fix this problem -
they recommend that we upgrade to System 7.6.1 (we are currently on
7.5.3).

They have also suggested that we get rid of all non-BD software on the
PMac but that is not really an option as I cannot justify a PMac solely
for this purpose (it is also our labs work-horse computer - when not
being used for FACS). My question is does anyone else with a PMac and a
FACScan/FACSort/Calibur successfully use 7.5.3, or has anyone found
upgrading the system helped the problem? Has anyone successfully used
the latest Mac OS (OS 8, I think) with CellQuest?

Tthe FACSort is booked solidly all week so this is causing several
delays and giving me, as custodian of the machine, a major headache.

Thanks in advance,
Michelle
