Colleagues:

I am hiring a new flow cytometry lab technician and invite any interested
candidates to contact me directly about the position. This is an informal
job posting. As I would like to hire someone with some experience, if
possible, I felt this was a good place to post a notice. The job
description that follows is on file with the University of Chicago Human
Resources Department. The position is primarily flow cytometry oriented but
is not limited to flow cytometry.

The University of Chicago Flow Cytometry Facility is a busy core service
facility that serves the entire University and Hospital research community.
99% of the work in the lab is basic research and clinical research. It is
not a clinical facility. Additional information can be obtained by speaking

TITLE: RESEARCH TECHNICIAN

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The basic function of this position is to carry out assays under the
supervision of the responsible investigator and appropriate lab director.
The individual will be involved in daily operation and maintenance of the
Flow Cytometry Core Facility. The individual will also be involved with
basic research projects involving production and purification of immunologic
reagents for research and clinical purposes.

SPECIFICS:
1. The individual must be able carry out a variety of moderate to complex
laboratory techniques including: flow cytometric analysis and sterile
sorting, development and implementation of fluorescence assays, tissue cell
culture of monoclonal antibody producing cell lines, purification of
antibodies using affinity purification columns, ELISA assay development and
implementation, and immunohistochemistry techniques.

2. The individual must be able to collect data and critically analyze
individual experiments under the supervision of the responsible investigator
and maintain adequate notebooks. Record keeping is extremely important.

3. The individual will participate in the analysis and design of
experiments with the responsible investigator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in biology, chemistry or
equivalent training in the biological sciences.

EXPERIENCE: Previous laboratory experience in immunology, biochemistry or
cellular biology along with flow cytometry experience is preferred. Above
techniques will be taught where necessary.
