Regarding the discussion of late on fetal cell detection, I can add that
we have recently developed a method (yes Howard, the patent is now
filed) using 3 monoclonal antibody clones to hemoglobin F (fetal) and a
permeabilization method using FCM. We get ~2 log separation between
maternal cells and fetal cells and have further developed an
data analysis routine using Verity's Modfit to reproduceably quantitate
fetal cells, so-called F-cells (RBCs with HbF and HbA seen in "stressed"
erythropoiesis), and adult cells. This method will be presented at the
Charleston Clinical Cytometry meetings in August and the International
Society for Hematology meeting in Singapore in August. The clones and
method are available for licensure and for collaborative studies. For
more information come to Charleston, Singapore or call, fax or write.
