Having read that discussion about antibody expiration dates
I wonder that nobody question's the rules by which they are
set instead of getting exceptions. Get the manufacturers to
deal with that.
Alternatively you should consider buying smaller quantities.
I know from DAKO UK that they also aliquot 250ul samples for
a small charge on request. That is still cheaper than
throwing 500ul away. In addition it is worth while checking
with your supplier the expiration dates of their stocks
before buying. If you are flexible enough (not the slave of
a reagent contract) you can also get a batch from a
different supplier that might have a longer shelf life.

The assumption that a reagent works because it is not yet
expired is probably a discussion worthwhile in it's own
right. Proper QC should be given a higher priority than
'sell by dates' anyhow.

Still in the spirit that all administrative rules should be
abolished anyhow I can only finish with some ancient demand
stuck to my old 'guitar-coffin':

Legalise Erdbeereis
