Saponin mechanism

An investigator in our laboratory is interested in using saponin for
intracellular staining. She wants to know the mechanism of the
reversibility of the saponin treatment, whereby resuspending the cells in
PBS after saponin treatment closes the holes saponin punched. Does anyone
know?
