Brian Smith inquired concerning upgrading the FACScan computer system
from the HP computer to the MAC FACStation.

About 6 mos. ago we acquired a FACS Vantage with the MAC FACStation and
upgraded our FACSCan with the same. We have continued to use the HP
system with the FACScan when needed. The three computers are linked by
ether net. BD supplies file transfer and conversion software. We have
not had any problems transferring and converting the data from the HP.
(You cannot go backward from the MAC to the HP).

To switch acquisition from the MAC to the HP for the FACScan, we
reconnect the computer cable at the flow cytometer. Our BD service
engineer set it up for us.

I understand that an upgrade for CellQuest is coming soon--mostly to work
out a few bugs. MacCycle (MultiCycle) DNA software was supplied when we
bought our system, but Verity's MAC software is now being distributed and
we will be receiving it soon.

Over all, the new system is working OK. I had a few headaches at
first since I had no experience with the MAC. Most of our research
investigators have been pleased with the new system.
