Most cells in the human body "differentiate," or acquire specialized functions. For example, differentiated breast cells secrete milk. Another feature of differentiated cells is that they stop growing and dividing. Instead, their energies are invested in their differentiated functions (e.g., secretion). In terms of the cell cycle, this is called the G0 phase, because a differentiated cell is no longer actively growing.
