
Cell Analysis Facility Director
The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) Cell Analysis Facility (CAF) is a large multi-user flow cytometry-based core serving the medical center researchers as well as the outlying research community on a fee-for-service basis. The core houses two cell sorters, five analyzers, a bead-based assay system, magnetic cell separation system and NanoProTM protein characterization system. In 2013, a CyTOF mass cytometer will be added. In addition, the core offers training and data analysis services on a number of software platforms. The CAF plays a key role in enabling research conducted in the fields of basic science discovery, clinical and translational research, and UNMC is well-recognized as a leader in these and other areas of biomedical research.
Job Description. The Cell Analysis Facility at UNMC seeks an enthusiastic and innovative full time Director with excellent knowledge of flow cytometry theory and instrumentation with at least 3 years of cytometry experience including cell sorting, multiplex assays and multi-color immunofluorescence cell analysis. Mass spectrometry knowledge and experience is a plus. The Director is expected to proactively monitor technological development and to work with faculty stakeholders and technical specialists to ensure that UNMC researchers receive state-of-the-art service from the CAF including experiment design and execution as well as provide expertise in new protocol development, instrument setup, operation and routine maintenance. The Director will work closely with the CAF faculty oversight committee and the Office of Research, and will interact routinely with UNMC investigators, research leadership, administrative personnel overseeing general core facility operations, as well as other key academic and industry collaborators.
This position requires an MS or PhD in Cell Biology or related field and extensive experience in a relevant area. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of leadership in the application and/or development of cytometry technologies and experience with BD LSR II, FACSAria, FACSArray instrumentation and Cellquest Pro, DiVa, ModFit and Flowjo analysis software. Highest priority will be given to candidates with experience in scientific and administrative management of cytometry-related core facilities, and with a proven ability to develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and budgets. Strong organizational, interpersonal and writing skills, the ability to work well in a collaborative research environment, and well-developed critical thinking and analytical skills are required. Mass spectrometry knowledge and experience will be an advantage.
