Using antibodies is doing it the hard way; a number of dyes, spanning the
spectral range from the UV-excited, blue fluorescent Hoechst dyes to
red-excited, near-infrared fluorescent oxazine 750, will stain DNA in
malaria parasites. The literature on this goes back quite a ways.
