Publishers and contracts

I want to thank all of you who have contacted me about our problems with
the publisher of our book, 'In Living Color'. Our contract was with Landis
Publishing in Texas, who sold the rights to Springer Verlag. Springer says
they have no contract with us, so they don't need to pay us anything. Ron
Landis has admitted in writing that he owes us, claims he was selling his
business, but still publishes. He refuses to give us any number of books
sold, as our contract says we get 10% of each sale, plus he never paid us
the amount he promised when the book was done. Cal Tech's lawyers
apparently couldn't solve this and we were told that we need to retain
someone who can practice in Texas to sue him for the rights to the
book..... I'm new at this - so any help or suggestions from those of you
who publish regularly is appreciated. And a word of warning - don't use
Landis for anything.

Thanks
Sue
