Manager to Establish an MRC funded FACS Sorting Facility at the
Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford
Proposed Salary Range £26-40K
With an option for tenure after a probationary period (usually 12 months)
We are writing to let you know that we will soon be advertising a position for an experienced FACS sorter to establish a new core facility at the Institute of Molecular Medicine. This facility will eventually serve all the scientists in the Institute including the MRC Molecular Haematology Unit http://www.imm.ox.ac.uk/mhu/ and the MRC Molecular Human Immunology Unit http://www.imm/groups/mrc-hiu/pages/home.htm.
The successful applicant will play the key role in designing, establishing and developing this new service taking responsibility for the day-to-day management and operation of the facility. Initially much of the work will involve the isolation and analysis of haemopoietic cells. Over the course of the next three years we plan to extend the facility to include two sorting machines and several analysers, with additional junior staff to help run the facility. The current remit will include scheduling, data acquisition and analysis, data management, instrument maintenance, training and providing general support for up to twenty groups of scientists using the facility.
We are therefore looking for a creative, highly motivated individual to design and perform cell purification using our Cytomation MoFlo cell sorter and analysis using a FACS Calibur. The Head of FACS will be creatively engaged in challenging research, developing new protocols and customising equipment in order to purify cells for subsequent analysis. We would encourage the holder of this position to take an active interest in the research and collaborate as a member of the research teams.
The position would be most suitable for an experienced cell sorter looking for a new challenge. Prior experience operating the MoFlo would be advantageous but here is also full provision for further training of an individual with experience of other machines.
If you know of any suitable candidates for this position we would be most grateful if you would put us in touch with them. Also if this position is of interest to you informal enquiries should be made to Prof D.R.Higgs (email drhiggs@molbiol.ox.ac.uk) (Tel 01865 222393).
Yours sincerely,
PROFESSOR D.R. HIGGS PROFESSOR A.J. McMICHAEL
