I am assured by people who design calcium probes that, not only can't you
excite indo-1 with 407 nm, you can't even make a derivative of indo-1 that
would excite at 407 nm - or even at 385 nm, which is now the shortest
wavelength you can get from a violet (ultraviolet, at this wavelength)
diode laser. I have also been told that it might be possible to get an
emission ratiometric calcium probe derived from indo-1 that would work with
370 nm excitation from a frequency-doubled, diode-pumped Alexandrite laser.
