Instrument operation: analyze and/or sort samples prepared by facility clients; provide data generated by those analyses, and assist clients in interpretation of results. Technical duties: setup, alignment and quality control of flow cytometer(s); laser alignment and maintenance; preventative maintenance of flow cytometers; minor instrument repairs. Administrative duties: data storage and data archive maintenance; library/on-line literature searches; maintain inventory of flow cytometry laboratory supplies NOTE: The Flow Cytometry is interested in expanding its evening hours. A flexible work schedule is a possibility with this position. DEPARTMENT QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS degree in science field, with some experience in basic laboratory and scientific methods. Ability to work independently and to produce and interpret technical data. Strong personal skills that enable the employee to work effectively with principal investigators, as well as, research technicians. A desire to learn and master new techniques. The ability to work independently and responsibly. A degree of curiosity and enthusiasm for scientific inquiry. DESIRED QUALS: Willingness to work afternoon/evening hours. Demonstrable computer familiarity and capability, with a working knowledge of MS Windows and MAC/OS. Basic mechanical abilities. General laboratory skills, including pipetting and microscope usage. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requires the academic knowledge of a health science discipline such as public health, microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy, pathology, nursing, dental hygiene or medical technology, plus the ability to translate, adapt and apply this knowledge that is generally associated with a Bachelor's degree, supplemented by one or more years of progressively responsible experience in the conduct of health science research or an equivalent combination of health science education and experience.
