Paul - you raise an important issue in cytometry education, and indeed education in general. I realize that there are apologists at both poles of the 'distance learning' debate, and have noted Michael O's and Jim L's online courses. It would be good to get some info on how well these courses work, particularly from the learning end. For about 20 years, I have taught a classroom/lab based course on an Introduction to the Principles of Flow Cytometry. Recently, I was invited to give a three day course on the subject in Seattle. The organizers hoped to get 15 to 20 folks to register, and they had to cut registration off at 90! Perhaps you are sensing my bias. It seems to me that there might be a hybrid strategy that merges technology with face to face in a classroom. -----Original Message----- From: J.Paul Robinson [mailto:jpr@flowcyt.cyto.purdue.edu] Sent: Thursday, November 08, 2001 3:31 PM To: cyto-inbox Subject: Clincial Cytometry Meeting - On-Line learning opportuntiy Colleagues: To those attending the Clinical meeting: At the Clincial Cytometry meeting in Orlando this weekend, I will be presenting a free workshop on Sunday from 1-2pm on new opportunities for On-Line Learning and Training.
