Flow Cytometrist Flow Cytometrist needed to assist with Immunology Core at David Axelrod Institute of Wadsworth Center, New York State Dept. of Health, Albany, NY. The core provides flow cytometry and other services to Wadsworth Center scientists, as well as researchers from the surrounding scientific community. Scientists who use this unit are actively involved in basic research utilizing flow cytometry to evaluate genetic and biochemical processes in normal physiology and to study host:pathogen relationships in infectious diseases. The incumbent of this position works independently with a minimum of supervision to direct and maintain the facility and prepare annual reports. The facility mainly consists of two analytical flow cytometers (BD FACScaliber and BD FACScan) and one fluorescence-activated cell sorter (BD FACSVantage). The incumbent provides advice on the organization of research projects utilizing flow cytometry, ensures proper functioning of the instrumentation, and assists in the teaching and training of students, fellows, other technologists, and scientists in the use and applicability of the flow cytometers. Basic qualification requirements are a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in a scientific discipline. Some previous microbiology or immunology course work would be helpful.
