Flow Core Operator/Manager, Boston
Position available for a Flow cytometry operator, in charge of a flow core
facility at the Joslin Diabetes Center. The facility is part of the
interactive Immunology Section, and is involved in a wide array of flow
applications, with an emphasis on multi-color work. It is equipped with a
Mo-Flo cell sorter (3 laser, 8-parameter, Sort-Master, Auto-Cloner) and a
Coulter XL 4 color analyzer and supporting informatics. The position
involves operating and routine maintenance of the Mo-Flo, collaborating with
Joslin scientists in the development and implementation of new protocols,
advising investigators for experimental design and data analysis, and
teaching users the self-operation of the analyzer. The Joslin is located
within the Harvard Medical school campus, and there are active interactions
with other flow facilities nearby, and more generally with the exciting
research activities on the campus.
Located in the center of Boston's medical community, the Joslin Diabetes
Center is an international center for diabetes research and treatment.
Established in 1898, and affiliated with Harvard Medical School, the Joslin
is at the forefront of Diabetes research, both basic and clinical, and is
devoted to educating patients and professionals to this serious disease that
currently affects more than 16 million Americans.
An undergraduate degree in biology or a closely related field is required,
post-graduate degree desirable. Significant experience in flow cytometry is
strongly preferred. Experience in bio-informatics, cell culture or
recombinant DNA technology would be a plus. Salary is commensurate with
