Paul,
I've always been a fan of this list . . . and I say that, in general, it's exactly
what it needs to be!
Of all the on-line resources, yours is the one I a) access daily, b) look forward to
interacting with , c) find the most useful, and d) enthusiastically mention to others.

I agree that it would be a mistake to automatically send every reply to all names
on the list.  This list seems (at least what we see of it) to police itself well,
and that's the way it shoiuld be.  When I feel that one of my responses/comments may
be of general interest, I'll send it to "all."   I do believe that some responses,
ones of a more basic nature, should be reserved for individuals . . . and I appreciate
having this option.  I don't want to be forced to wade through a potential ocean of
twaddle to find something of interest . . .

I also agree that messages without a subject line should be eliminated.  My decision
to read a message (or not) will often depend on this subject description . . . besides,
I'm always worried about "land mines" that may hide behind these unannounced messages.
