We have instructions for this- if you contact Paula Imus at pif@box-p.nih.gov she could fax you them or email them to you. We find that putting sterile heparin in the syringe and then discharging the marrow specimen into a container with 20-25 mL of PBS containing more heparin helps to prevent clotting. We want specimens in 24 hours, although you can get information after 48 hours it is not as reliable. The next thing you have to worry about is the temperature. When it is hot out, packing the specimen in bubble wrap and plastic bags before including a cold pack with the specimen and shipping in a styrofoam container is helpful. In very cold weather- just omit the cold pack. Hope this helps.
