CD3 in mouse

Dear Flowers,
I need some help with mouse CD3 antibodies. I have an investigator who was
doing CD4/CD8 on mouse spleen and thymus very nicely until she decided she
wanted to first gate through CD3. We have tried two CD3 antibodies with
mixed results. The 500-A2 clone from Caltag didn't stain most of the CD8
positive cells. The 145-2C11 from Pharmingen stains pretty well but still
includes a lot of non CD4/CD8 cells in the gate. Where to gate is not
completely clearcut. I am gating against forward scatter. Since I don't
have a lot of experience with Tcell staining, I wasn't sure what I should
expect, but thought it should do better than that. I am hoping those of
you with mouse experience will share with me your expertise. Also, what is
a good resource that discusses these markers in mouse or human?

Thanks,
