Gary,

In our hands the Scan always handshaked with the computer
interface more fluidly than the Calibur. In class BD warns you of
this nuance and explains that the Calibur must be turned on
prior to booting the computer or handshaking fails.
I suspect that the process of analyzing the harddrive that occurs
initially by the anti-viral software interferes with this process of
handshaking and that you will not be able to keep anti-viral
software on your machine at least as a resident process.
The security software that many use, such as FileGuard also
cannot be used in the presence of anti-viral software. I suspect for
similar reasons, i.e. the anti-viral examination of the hard drive appears
to FileGuard as an unauthorized process.
