DESCRIPTION
Incumbent will be responsible for assisting investigators using the
advanced cell analysis and sorting instruments of the core facility.
Responsibilities will include setup, maintenance, quality control and
trouble shooting of a Becton Dickinson (BD) FACSVantage SE high-speed
cell sorter, BD FACScan and FACSCalibur bench top cytometers,
fluorescent microscopes and various image cytometry systems including
confocal microscopes; assess needs of various projects, assign
priorities, and schedule instrument use for individual researchers;
administrative duties will include record keeping, billing of
instrument usage, and ordering of necessary supplies; writing of
protocols, methods, abstracts, portions of grant proposals and
manuscripts will be expected; expected to teach some aspect of the
LCA Flow Course; expected to have and use; a working knowledge of
basic cell culture and fluorescent labeling techniques; skills with
interpretation and analysis of data using different software packages
on an assortment of computer platforms; and perform other duties as
assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS
SRA I: BA/BS in biological or physical science or a related science
and knowledge of, or experience with, basic techniques, methods
required by the position, or equivalent combination of education and
experience; experience in flow or image cytometry; aptitude with
complex laboratory equipment; experience with computers; basic
knowledge of immunology, cell and molecular biology concepts,
protocols and applications; excellent interpersonal skills are
required in order to explain results, understand scope of projects,
communicate with a diversified user community, and deal with
inevitable problems in a constructive manner; SRAII: in addition to
the above, one or more years of recent, directly related work
experience after degree completion, utilizing techniques, methods
required by the position, or equivalent combination of education,
experience; at least one year of experience in flow or image
cytometry.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Proficiency with various computer operating systems and data analysis
software desired.
NOTES
Classification and salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
