Hi David,
If it's increased brightness you want for increased sensitivity detection of
low levels of antigen then I would try the Alexa488 conjugated antibodies
from Molecular probes. I compared FITC, PE and Alexa488 on a particular
antigen that was expressed at low levels. The FITC didn't pick up anything
and the Alexa fluorescence intensity was approximately 5 times brighter than
PE. There's also an Alexa488 amplification kit which is supposed to be even
brighter although I haven't used it yet.
