Hi Sebastian, While your question is broad, it is necessary as a starting point. Consider these basic ideas and realize I have used mostly BD instruments. First, expandability, get a unit that if you only purchase the base model it can be expanded to increase the number of lasers, PMTs, and additional sorting hardware like an ACDU. Second, user friendly, are the software and hardware learning curves low and easy or steep and difficult and are they compatible with third party softwares. Third, support, is the company responsive in all phases of the sale, from initial literature to purchase to training to service. Finally, be demanding of the sales reps, who are all nice people but have a quota to meet and may try to gloss over some of the questions you might have. Remember, if you are not comfortable with the features before the sale, you probably won't be real happy afterwards. Now on a personal experience note, I have always been happy with my BD instruments when I have not looked for them to outperform their specs. I have used at various times, a FACScan, FACSCalibur, and a FACStar plus, with good results. I do have caveats about the CELLQuest software and the lack of certain features I would like to see present, but they are probably more specific to my preferences. Hope this helps, Randy T.
