I forgot to add two things to my comments on the upgrade: The XL software only has FDA approval under DOS 6.22 Therefore you have to ensure as mentioned elsewhere in the list to built the system on a FAT16 and retain the old dos version. For a several gigabyte hard drive you should therefore partition it in several drives of 2 gigabyte. You can fire up the software from an icon if you exit into DOS mode (not in a window). To obtain the multiboot system with the option to run old DOS versions in startup you have to have the following lines in the MSDOS.sys file: [Options] BootMulti=1 BootGUI=0 BootMenu=8 I haven't got the right syntax for default menu and time for choice, but I am sure someone can send that info to the list. To set the correct screen driver you have to play with the settings in the c:\XL\xl_graph.cng, e.g. un-rem the appropriate screen driver by trial and error. For it to work you have to start XL from the XL directory (or perhaps just to have XL in the path) Just ensure the IRQ11 is available to the XL card in the BIOS and ensure it is not used by 98. Toward this end, we want to swap out all of our Coulter (DTX) computers with newer and faster Compaq models that will run the old Coulter DOS programs in DOS mode of a WIN95 machine. If anyone has any tips or warnings for me, I would appreciate any email responses that might help us. In particular, I seem to remember IRQ issues mentioned in the past. Thanks in advance, Phil Marder marder_philip@lilly.com
