nuclear b-gal staining

Dear Flow-ers,
I am writing to see if any of you have any suggestions for how to
simultaneously stain peripheral blood or bone marrow for a cell surface
marker and for nuclear b-galactosidase encoded by a retroviral vector.
Most of the b-gal antibodies I have tried yield a large amount of
background (Monosan, Sigma, Gibco, 5'-3'), and the fixation and
permeabilization required for antibody access to the nucleus (saponin,
triton, tween) all seem to disrupt binding of the antibody to the
surface marker. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Graça
