     Actually, I was able to see E. coli and Staph aureus rather well on my 
     Coulter XL-MCL.  I just used a bead set to set the scatter to between 
     0.5-5 um, and then used viably stained (BIO-RAD) and heat-killed + PI 
     stained basteria to set the live/dead gates.
     
     Some data from those studies are included in the recent publication by 
     Goodson et al. 1999. Antimicrob Agents Chemother. Jun;43(6):1429-34

I don't think so... they are too small unless you can immunologically bind 
them to some sort of resin bead because Ecoli are much smaller than 
RBC's and would fade in with the noise.
