RE: WIN-FCM and EXPO

Dear All
OK I'll speak up.

We have been using the current version of Expo software on an Elite ESP for
over six months now and have found it easy and reliable to use. However, I
can't say I have tested it fully as we use the Elite almost exclusively for
sorting human chromosomes.

Control of the cytometer with Expo is more foolproof as, apart from sending
stored protocol settings the first time a protocol is loaded and sending
sorting gates and parameters, changes in settings are mainly controlled from
the touch screen with the PC picking up the changes. This avoids the
problem of SENDING when you wanted to RECEIVE and vice versa (hardened Elite
users will know what I mean!).

For sorting, the Autoclone interface is particularly nice to use after the
standard Elite software and the rolling event display in Setup mode is ideal
for checking that chromosome peaks aren't straying out of sorting gates.
The software has a host of automated reporting modes but as we don't process
large numbers of tests on large numbers of patients I cannot comment on how
useful or reliable these are.

So the bottom line is that the Expo software works fine (at least for dual
laser sorting), gives a nice Windows environment and makes control of the
cytometer more foolproof. However, I still use WinMDI for presentations as
Expo doesn't have density plots.

Nigel

I'll add my concerns re: the Expo software. Come on, speak up--is anyone
using it? It looks great in demo--how does it perform in a
production environment? Anyone?
