I would agree with other commentators. You are probably observing
endoduplicated cells. It is surprising how many cultures contain
endoduplicated cells. Usually the person doing the experiments is unaware
of this. A small percentage of such cells can have a dramatic effect on
many measurements, cell survival after irradiation or drug treatment, for
example.
