Oh years ago I'd be walking through the woods, a youngster contemplating the leaves as they lazily glided down a stream. I remember watching as a leaf came to a narrow in the stream. As it did it suddenly shot through the narrow at an accelerated pace came out the other side and slowed down again - I wondered why? 10 Years later: I'd ask physics students in college to explain it to me, they occasionally would talk to biology majors, "Hum, that's interesting...don't know why." 20 Years later - I'm going through the first year of medical school and we're sitting around in our study group discussing the chapter in cardiac hemodynamics. "Alright I get this idea if you occlude a vessel you get reduced flow, but why does it flow faster? You know like when you squeeze the nozzle on a garden hose. Sure you get less flow but it seems to come out with a greater force." "Gene, you're confusing flow with velocity!" "Yeah, so" Last night: I read the review ( 2/15) in CCC. Thank you Jim Watson.
