Re: Printer for XL

Dear Dr. McLaughlin,

I guess I wasn't very clear in my recent posting about using an HP 890C
Deskjet printer with System II software. We have two PC's hooked up to our
HP 890C printer through an automatic switchbox. One computer is a Win
98 Pentium that we use for analysis and administrative kinds of work. The
other computer is hooked up to the XL. The XL's computer was set up by
Coulter to be bootable in both Win 95 or in DOS, but we MUST boot the
machine in DOS to use the System II software. According to the Coulter
tech, the DOS part of the hard-drive is, in effect, "hidden" away from the
Win 95 part, because Win 95 is a real operating system which would take
over DOS if it could. The System II software does not work in the
"pseudo-DOS" that comes with Win95. I'm not sure why. Anyway, we
occasionally use the XL's computer in Win 95 mode to ftp listmode files or
to do analysis with WinMidi, but we do most of our analysis on the other
Win 98 PC using WinMidi,Verity WinList or ModFit.

Coulter does have software available, called EXPO, that can run the flow
and do analysis in Win 95 mode. However, I like System II better for
running the flow, and the Verity and WinMidi software for analysis. You
can download WinMidi at http://facs.scripps.edu/software.html and the
Verity site is at http://www.vsh.com/. Phoenix Flow Systems also sells
analysis software, http://www.vsh.com/.
