Hello Dominique, You are not alone in having initial problems with Turbo Sort. I think all of us have spent more time than we expected in setting up these systems. The parameters are very different from a standard low pressure set-up. But after a year in our hands, with a number of modifications from the original TSO installation, we now have a well characterized and reliable high speed sorter. The performance is pretty amazing when you finally get your instrument optimized. I would encourage you to take part in the TSO users group that Glenn Paradis at MIT has started. There have been a lot of specific changes that TSO users have made that you may want to consider. Becton Dickinson also has a lot of developmental changes in the works that should improve the TSO performance dramatically. Although there is a learning curve with high speed sorting, it is definitely worth the time and effort to develop. We have seen a dramatic increase in performance recently, and we are still making progress. Our users are really pleased with our results so far. I think Becton Dickinson and Cytomation deserve a lot of credit in developing these high speed sorters. I expect them to revolutionize the way core facilities like ours operate. We can now configure an instrument that is optimized for high speed, purity, recovery or sensitivity, depending on the application. So yes, we had similar problems in getting the sorter to function in a decent way. And yes, once you get it set up it will work. Iım hoping to actually go home on time more often since weıre sorting much faster. As for the Macintosh problems, I expect those will be worked out soon. We are currently running OS8 on all our PowerPCıs with no problems. Iıd really miss my Mac if I had to go back to the HP. We can read our e-mail, check our sign-up schedule and review our personal organizer all while weıre sorting. The only thing Iım still not brave enough to do while sorting is run a web browser.
