Dears Steve Hilliard and Barbara Butcher, Lectins that show direct cytotoxic effects usually act by inactivating ribossomes and starting programmed cell death. In cultured cells incubation with lectins in high doses may really have citotoxic effect, but I don't think it would apply to rbcs. Just a thought: is there a possibility that what you really see is not rbcs but lectin aggregates? They can aggregate by themselves is suspension, especially at high concentrations.
