Hi Chris,

Have you thought about a MoFlo. I have recently purchased a machine from
Cytomation (last week) and should have it up and running in a few weeks' time. I
was impressed with the sort speed of the MoFlo, and from everyone I have talked
to that owns one, they are all very happy with it. It seems to have a few
technical advantages over BD and Coulter instruments in terms of electronics and
sort speed. The instrument was designed around high a speed sorting capability,
so it is not a 'bolt-on' option like BDs' offering. The electronic bus on the
MoFlo is 'public domain' so you can design and fit your own boards easily. The
optical system allows independent focusing of the laser beams in a multiple beam
set-up. I have found the company, although small, very responsive to our needs
and quick acting. I am the first in the UK with such a machine, so if you are
not buying immediately, I can give you a critique of how I got on with
Cytomation.

BD and Coulter are in the process of updating there equipment, I know Coulter
is working on a High Speed sort option for there machine, and BD are also
working to integrate the turboSort option into the main console of the vantage.
They may well have improved there technology since I last spoke to them, (last
month).

But hey, don't take my word for it go and see all the machines on offer,
preferably in other peoples labs, phone around, email etc.
