As far as photostability is concerned, I would suggest looking at the back cover of BioProbes 23 which shows a good comparison between Fluorescein and Oregon Green 514. The photostability is dependent upon the medium in which mounting is done. Both Oregon Green 488 and Oregon Green 514 show good photostability in Prolong, SlowFade, and CytoSeal. In PBS however, OG 514 shows better photostability than OG 488. As a matter of fact, the new dye Alexa 488 is not only brighter than OG 488 and Fluorescein but is also more photostable than those.
