Do I NEED a PowerMac?

Hi all,

We are looking over a proposal for the purchase of a "active seventh
detector upgrade" and "TurboSORT" options for a dual laser, 3 beam (UV, 488
and 647) FACStar Plus, with autoclone unit. The proposal includes an
upgrade of the HP computer to a PowerMac. First question, does one really
need the PowerMac: is there a real/significant advantage over HP / LYSYS
combo? If so, what is/are they. Second, does CELLQuest for the FACStar
allow cross laser compensation i.e.: FL3-1 minus %FL3-2, and FL3-2 minus
%FL3-1. How does the autoclone software rate? Sure, I'ld like a PowerMac,
but how do I justify the expense? The instrument is used mostly for 3 color
sorting, soon for 4 or 5 color sorts, and occassionally for calcium
mobilisation and other non sorting applications. All comments are welcome.

Thanks, Claude
