Steve,

The atoclone must successfully reach its home position (Well A1)
at powerup or nothing works. There are two microswitches which
must be closed for the system to think it is ready (one in the X
direction and one int the Y direction) There is also a plate
detection microswitch. These switches can fail or the small 
aluminum pads which ress against them can slip out of position.
These pads are used to grossly set the home X-Y position. The
problem you describe s almost certainly a failure associated
with one of these switched or the cabling to them.
