CYTO-STATS

The CD4 antigen is a single-chain transmembrane glycoprotein with a 59 kDa molecular weight. It is found on a specific subset of peripheral blood lymphocytes, the so-called "helper" cells. It is present on most thymocytes where it is frequently co-expressed with CD8. CD4 is also expressed on all the monocytes, although with a lower density than on CD4+ T cells. CD4+ T cell subset is active in inducing and helping the synthesis of immunoglobulins by B cell. CD4 is an accessory molecule for MHC class II molecule recognition by helper T cells.CD4 is a receptor for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). BL4 and 13B8.2 antibodies recognize different epitopes and are not cross-blocking. All three antibodies antagonize HIV effects in vitro. T4 antibody was evaluated during the First International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens. 13B8.2 and BL4 antibodies were evaluated during the Third Workshop.
