Bio-Rad FAST reagent kits – rapid, growth-rate independent determination of antimicrobial activity


Bio-Rad Laboratories announces the Flow Antimicrobial Susceptibility (FAST) System - a new technology for antimicrobial susceptibility testing. The FAST System consists of an analytical instrument, reagent kits, software and protocols for the rapid and accurate determination of antimicrobial effect.

By measuring the differential binding of fluorescent reagents to individual microbes, the FAST System can quickly and accurately identify susceptible and resistant organisms in seconds, without the delay associated with growth inhibition methods.

The FAST System offers:

  • Speed: antimicrobial susceptibility results in minutes
  • Accuracy: excellent correlation to traditional MIC values
  • Efficiency: streamlined protocols for better work flow in the lab

In addition to identifying susceptible and resistant microbes, the FAST System can also be used to determine antimicrobial kinetics, synergy and dose response.
