The apoptotic cells are those which are specifically detected to have
increased dUTP incorporation. You might find that the general shift in your
"negative" population is attributable to 1) low level incorporation (??), or
2) titration of reagents. If your kit calls for 1e6 cells/ml, and you only
have 1e5, then your reagents are off by 10x and may be too much for these fewer
cells. Often, by either adjusting the concentrations, or more stringent
washing, you can reduce this background level.
