I haven't heard of FDG, but there is a naturally occurring fluorescent
protein that your researcher may have heard about. Green Fluorescent Protein
(GFP) has been used as a reporter to replace the B-galactosidase system. GFP
gene expression can also be used to monitor cell developmental fates and
protein localization. I've read many papers on the topic and seen it on the
cytometer, briefly, used to monitor expression. It can be done.
Get the info from Clontech, their references will point you in the right
direction.
