The 23D12 recognizes several members of the group gI variable genes. This group comprises 8 segments from VgI.1 to VgI.8. All these segments possess a high degree of homology. VgI.1, VgI.6, VgI.7 are non-functional pseudogenes. 23D12 recognizes VgI.2, VgI.3, VgI.4. The remaining functional members VgI.5 and VgI.8 are not recognized.This antibody stains about 60% of gd cells in postnatal thymus. It is reactive with only a minor population of adult peripheral gd T cells.
