The CD49a antigen is the 210 kDa integrin a1 chain which is non-covalently associated with the 130 kDa integrin b1-chain (CD29 molecule) forming the VLA-1 complex. It is known as laminin and collagen receptor. It is expressed by activatedT lymphocytes, monocytes, fibroblasts, microvascular endothelial cells, and smooth muscle cells.
