The CD39 (gp80) antigen has a molecular weight of 100-70 kDa. It is present on mature B cells and on monocytes from peripheral blood. It is also found on some tonsil B cells, on Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-transformed cell lines and on some epithelial cells. It is absent from peripheral T cells but some populations of activated T cells do express it. AC2 antibody was evaluated during the Fourth International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens.
