The CD18 antigen is the 95 kDa integrin b2-chain which forms non-covalently-bound heterodimers with the integrin a subunits: CD11a, CD11b and CD11c (aL, aM and aX). It is strongly expressed by all human leukocytes. It is known as the receptor for InterCellular Adhesion Molecules (ICAM): ICAM-1, ICAM-2 and ICAM-3 and functions in cell to cell and cell to extracellular matrix adhesion. 7E4 is a blocking antibody in cell adhesion assays.
